Downtown Library Grand Opening

The Arlington Public Library is excited to announce the grand opening of the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library! The 70,000 square-foot, state of the art building will open with a ribbon cutting ceremony and two days of celebration this summer.

“The Downtown Library will be a center for learning and innovation in the heart of our community,” says Arlington Mayor Jeff Williams. “This facility is where dreams will become reality.”

Spend an evening with O.K. Carter, newspaper columnist, editor, author, and local historian and discover forgotten history of Arlington. He started with the Arlington Citizen-Journal in 1972 and retired from the Fort Worth Star Telegram in 2008. He is the author of Caddos, Cotton and Cowboys: Essays on Arlington .

Come with the whole family and join us in our new Makerspace for Makers: DIY for Families! Each Saturday during the course of the summer (starting on July 16) at 1 p.m. we will meet in the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library's Makerspace and learn a new technique, application or craft. At the end of each session participants will have something they created to take home!

Author Visit with Don Tate

Award-winning children's book author and illustrator Don Tate will be coming to entertain, interact and inspire us at our new City Council Chamber/Community Room on Friday, June 15 at 3 p.m. Some of the books Mr. Tate illustrated include The Amazing Age of John Roy Lynch (a 2017 Bluebonnet selection) and Woosh!
